TV Program(Working Title):
Heart of the Breed -
The Friesian Horse Story

Above you see a sample of Mark's video
collection, including the Friesian Horse.
We present it here as an example of his style.

Proposal: We propose to honor the Friesian Horse with an engaging documentary style television program and subsequent DVD release of the same.

Concept: The story will be a celebration of the colorful tradition of the Friesian Horse breed, presented in an entertaining and educational manner.  Our main focus will be the beauty and magical attraction of the Friesian Horse.  Our goal is to capture the essence of the FH through dramatic action footage and engaging visits with breeders, owners and lovers of the breed.  We will trace, as is possible, European history & origins of the Friesian Horse type and follow its establishment as a distinct breed in America.  Attention will be given to the Friesian Horse breed standards and the vision of the breed association.

Distribution: The plan for the television program is to reach across America through the most appropriate outlets, including Horse TV and RFD-TV.  We can assure placement of the program on at least one of these channels.  We are striving for higher aesthetic and production values demanded by larger outlets such as PBS and Animal Planet, allowing us far broader distribution possibilities.  This includes delivering the program in the desirable High Definition television format.

The DVD release is a take-home version of the television program, providing an important resource for the many in our audience who are without access to the slated broadcast outlets.  We will package and promote the title, and offer it through our distribution channels.

Funding:  The program will be structured for a half hour television format.  If funding and material allow we will expand that to a second half hour.  We are soliciting sponsor seed money to help fund production of the program.  Our main sponsors will receive prominent recognition at the beginning and end of the program, and may also be included in the program subject matter.  Commercial space within the finished program may also be available at a future date.

Mark J. Barrett, Principle Producer: My professional career in television and film production spans over 27 years, including producing or directing numerous television, sponsored films and commercial spot productions.  My collaboration with the horse has been nearly as long, and definitely produced my most rewarding work.  Samples are available upon request. We look forward to your participation and are eager to answer any questions. Email or call 352-236-2282.

Friesian Horse Wall Calendar

Project: Monthly pages (spreads) are reserved by sponsorship and are awarded on a first come, first served basis. If you would be interested in participating for 2009, or for future years, please let us know, via email or phone (352-236-2282). Our calendar titles are offered to retail sale outlets worldwide and we look forward to continuing this beautiful Gypsy Vanner tradition.

Details: Each inside spread will feature a large (~13.0x10.5”) photo on the top, two or three smaller inset images on the date grid, and basic information about the horse, e.g. horse’s barn name(nick name), registered name, height, and age in photos.  A thumbnail of the main image for each horse will appear on a contact page in the back of the calendar.  Beside it the owner’s contact information will be listed, including name, farm name, address, phone, web site, and/or email.  We must be careful to keep the content of the calendar educational and not promotional. This page will be a concise presentation of the information which will allow the reader to do further research, and can be easily accessed throughout the year. The finished calendar will be 13”x10.5”, opening to 13.5”x21”, on good quality stock, with gloss coated cover.

Cost: The cost of participation is structured per calendar spread and does NOT include the making of new photographs. Any new photos should be arranged separately with Mark J. Barrett, (352-236-2282). Visit his web site for samples of his work. (Use your browser's "back" arrow/button to return to this page.)

Schedule: All images must be ready for placement by July of the year previous to release. For example, for the 2009 calendar, we need all images by July of 2007. To sponsor a month’s spread for your horse in a future Gypsy Vanner Wall calendar, please call or email for availability, and cost. The Sponsorship Agreement document can be sent via email (pdf format attachment) or snail mail.
